DPhil topic
Through ethnographic fieldwork and architectural analysis, Yuan’s doctoral dissertation explores the multiple temporalities embodied in the houses and tombs of a village in North China. By analyzing the relationships between houses, tombs, and the social practices surrounding them, Yuan’s work investigates how villagers navigate religious encounters and socio-economic transformations through their built environment.
