East Asian Manuscripts and Rare Books catalogue
The Bodleian Libraries are delighted to announce they have launched the East Asian Manuscripts and Rare Books catalogue.
This catalogue is the successor to our earlier online catalogues for Chinese and Manchu rare books and manuscript collections known as Serica catalogue.
As well as including descriptions of our pre-1912 Chinese rare books and manuscripts, this new East Asian Manuscripts and Rare Books catalogue will include descriptions of Japanese and Korean manuscripts, calligraphy and painting scrolls, painting albums, and other handwritten material.
This catalogue includes a number of new features including:
- Presenting manuscripts and rare books in a way that respects and reflects the rich and historic bibliographic traditions of East Asia
- The ability to browse manuscripts and rare books by language, year of publication, subject (四部分類法), collection (Backhouse, Douce, Sinica, etc.) and more
- Easy links to images in Digital Bodleian where items have been digitised (over 2,000 items)
- The ability to request manuscripts and rare books directly for consultation
